Steven Tyler and Justin Murdock
Whether Steven Tyler has left Aerosmith on the verge of their 40th anniversary or not doesn’t matter. Sources close to Tyler say he is “in terrible trouble” and fear for his life. They are not kidding.
Pople who know the deal with Tyler say two things are contributing to his downfall: much loathed girlfriend Erin Brady and newish best pal, Justin Murdock, 35, heir to the Dole Pineapple fortune. Friends say Murdock, who’s been photographed going into nightclubs with Tyler, is helping the historically drug addicted singer live on the Pineapple Express by allowing him to party hard.
Murdock has recently come into his own tabloid wise, getting blamed for the break up of pop star Avril Lavigne’s marriage. Apparently he’s gotten into feuds, as well, with youngish actors like Jason Statham.
Murdock lives in Hawaii, which has been Tyler’s travel destination several times this year. It’s been a good place to get away, so to speak, friends say.
Brady, who is no shrinking violet but rather a student at Courtney Love College, made the press two years ago when she got into a catfight with another girl at a Florida nightclub. Hair pulling and eye scratching were involved.
But there is real concern, all puns aside, for Tyler’s health. Pictures this summer after he fell off a stage and broke his shoulder showed him looking perilously thin.
Insiders tell me that Tyler and Brady have several odd idiosyncratic practices, including “practicing how little they can eat in one day.” That would account, at least partially, for Tyler’s gaunt appearance.
I’ve made several calls to Tyler’s new manager, but none have been returned. I am told that Tyler’s situation these days is much like Michael Jackson’s was in the years before his death. “The people who work for him are afraid to do anything,” one source says.
Adding to the problems is that Tyler and Aerosmith each have separate management for the first time ever.
Meantime, Tyler is not keeping in good communication with his family. “I’m worried about Steven,” says a member of his circle. “He’s a different man than he used to be.” Tyler has four children: actress Liv Tyler (mom: Bebe Buell), model Mia Tyler (mom: the late Cyrinda Foxe, his first wife), and Chelsea and Taj (mom: Teresa Barrick, second wife, now divorced).
More elucidating: Tyler’s recent comments about leaving Aerosmith to do a solo album are nonsense, says a source. “It was always written into his contracts that he could do a solo album or project. He doesn’t need leave to do that. The real reason he’s gone AWOL is drugs.”
Indeed, Tyler has a long history with addiction dating back to the 1970s. The word now is that friends fear Tyler’s demons may have instigated that stage fall last summer. A domino effect set in after that as Tyler had to be treated for pain with prescription drugs — his arch nemesis.
Tyler’s apparent appetite for self destruction is a sad revelation. A little over a year ago I saw him perform at Boston’s Symphony Hall for an all-star PBS show put together by Chris Botti. Tyler brought his elderly dad, and sang the Charlie Chaplin song, “Smile.” to him. It was a poignant moment and Tyler still seemed to be in good shape. But now I’m told that his problems had already begun then.
More to come.

There was a story in today’s NY Post, actually the reporter wrote a letter urging the group to disband. I totally disagree. I believe, despite their age, they could regroup and again make a hit and be a force in this depleted world of music. I hope Tyler is okay or gets any treatment he may need. Again, great reporting and insight, Rog.

I met Steven and Erin a number of years ago at a funeral for the daughter of a mutual friend. Back then he and Erin had just gotten together. She was disliked from the start. He took his divorce very, very hard and has been on a downward spiral since starting with that broken foot he had at the time

Well, this is sad to read. Hopefully Steven will get himself back into rehab before this all ends very badly.

I saw Steven at the MAP awards in Hollywood May 2008. I look harmless so I was able to wander onto the floor and speak with him. He was so wasted he didn’t know where he was and was completely incoherent. He dropped the mike stand while performing, but still put on incredible performances. Really sad that he was so wasted while giving Slash an award for sobriety. What a waste of incredible talent. I hope he will come out of this.

Before everyone puts there two cents in and critizes Tyler and Perry who, by the way are not known personally to any of you. What kind of limited impoverished mentalities to you have? We live in an abundant Universe and we have been graced with the talents of Aerosmith for forty successful years. Fantastic artists, damanding careers, do not forget is is business and when it comes to them stop to consider that occassional breaks may be absolutely necessary to have something to bring back to their own project and as far as their lifestyles go-don’t criticise and gossip about what you cannot possibly understand-every event that has led someone to where they are in their life at this point. None of us are immortal. We are here are borrowed time. Enjoy Hawaii Tyler and good luck with future projects or whatever you decide to create in your life. God Bless. The critics can “take it on tour.” Thank you for your much appreciated contributions both of you in all your efforts. And Mr. Tyler, I absolute love “Smile” by Charlie Chaplin – beautiful. You appear to have your heart in tact-lovely. All the best to all. Most Sincerely,
Linda Stella

I have been saying it for a year! Erin Brady is a ruccubus who has drained the life out of Steven! I want more then anything to start a fan intervention with the help of Steven’s brothers and anyone who truely loves him as I do! Have we not learned from Michael Jackson’s tragic passing? I don’t know how but damn it I have to stop that from happening to Steven!!! Anyone serious on helping me?!!?

Again, It never ceases to amaze me how the powers that be in the various management components of Aerosmith, out of sheer incompetency, not to mention the total lack of “Common Sense” overlook the simple signs which in turn can cause a tour to be canceled, and then in turn, cause one of the greatest acts in the history of the music business to collapse. How Do You Fuck, That Up?
These people should be stripped of their companies and then forced to become “Flyer people” for strip clubs…
It is of my personal opinion that if the star of the show is on the road to killing himself then you immediately become” PRO ACTIVE” step in, REMOVE the problem areas by whatever legal means necessary, place the man into treatment and then, and only then, rebuild the artistic foundation and infrastructure therefore, saving not only the life of a great artist but the act of a true American Institution.
Now, There are the parasites, the scumbag rich kid, and some manipulative evil cunt, not to mention a new greedy scumbag manager whom only care about how they can benefit from his career and are around Steven 24/7 and for all intensive purposes has obviously gone insane and will die in the event something is not done quickly to save him from his disease.
It is up to the people closest to Steven to make a move. If history has taught us anything it is that you cannot leave it up to the artist to reel themselves in when they have strayed far into the sea.. Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison,Lenny Bruce, Curt Cobain, River Phoenix, and on and on and on…
On e personal level, it would break my heart to wake up one morning and see the news flash, Steven Tyler dead of an overdose… not to mention the end of an American Institution.

Aerosmith as a creative entity has been dead since “Pump”.For purists, they’ve been dead since “Rocks”.Tyler will recover, though. He’s got more than 9 lives. Just another day in chaos in the land a little south of sanity.

I am very interested in locating Henry Smith from Areosmith. Before Areosmith we were good friends in NH. He Henry lived at my parents house. His family was living in Andover at the time. His brother was Chris. If anyone has any information, I would love to hear from you.
Thanking you in advance.
