The red carpet is going to be a slightly less glamorous place this weekend.
That’s because Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are skipping both the Critics Choice Awards on Friday night and the Golden Globes on Sunday.
The usual gossip whisperers are saying it’s because the royal pair are having relationship issues and don’t want to be seen in public.
I say, Horsefeathers. For the last couple of years, Brad and Angelina have done yeoman duty showing up on lots of red carpets and sitting through countless awards ceremonies. And where is has gotten them? No place. They don’t win, but then have to look enthusiastic for the actual winners. Last year, in her acceptance speech at one of these shows, Kate Winslet actually forgot Angelina’s name when citing her other nominees.
Who needs it?
This year, Brad has a great comic performance in “Inglourious Basterds” as Sgt. Aldo Raine. His Italian bit at the start of the final sequence is hilarious. Pitt, as he showed in “Burn After Reading,” is a gifted comic actor. But he was overlooked for Christoph Waltz, who plays the Nazi Hans Landa. Pitt is no doubt happy for Waltz, but reasonably disappointed that a total newcomer to American cinema accidentally stole his thunder. You can’t blame him.
Still, “Basterds” is an ensemble piece. And while Waltz was a stand out, Pitt is without a doubt the heart and soul of the movie. As the leader of the “Basterds,” he is the movie’s hero. He’s exactly who patrons plunked down $12 for, and why he’s billed as the star of the movie. He has a lot of significant moments in “Basterds.” One of my favorites is right after the massive shoot-out in the bar, when Pitt shouts down. He’s off camera, but his accent is impeccable and so is attitude. The audience loves hearing just his voice, which says a lot when you think that Pitt’s image is his selling point.
So Brad, if you read this, come to Hollywood this weekend. The “Basterds” need you. Angie’s absence is understood: she has six kids and is finishing a film. But we’re Paging Pitt: it won’t be the same without you!

Jolie and Pitt never go to awards unless they are nominated or are presenting.
They don’t want to be seen in public? LMAO. I saw photos of them on some dinner just a few days ago.
The usual gossip whisperers need to give it up. Since they got together, 5 years ago, no matter what they have them having relationship issues and breaking up.
Roger Jolie finished filming Salt last week. And Roger those kids are Pitt’s too.

Can you go ten seconds without mentioning them? Damn give them a friggin’ break. Stop projecting so much. They are only human. I think they know there are things in life more important than Award shows. Sadly people in the entertainment industry don’t know that.

Roger’s right — Waltz was brilliant, but Pitt was the guy who surprised me most in “Basterds”. He was hilarious and charismatic in spades. Aldo is an iconic, star-making role like Indiana Jones for Harrison Ford. I for one look forward to future Basterds prequels…

Roger- do a little research- Brad & Angie don’t attend award shows unless one or both are nominated*, so no one should have expected them at this year’s GGs. They go out very little compared to other celebs. Some celebs attend every show/store/hotel red carpet they get invited to- the JPs don’t. Last year, they were nominated for almost all the awards, so we got to see them a lot. This year, we may see them at the CCAs and/or SAGs, since Brad was nominated for both. If every celeb attends every award show, there would be no room for the nominees- where the focus SHOULD be.
________
*Sometimes, even if nominated, they don’t go, e.g., they skipped the 2007 SAGs, but Angie’s mom had just died

Lol is this a joke? I thought brad almost ruined the movie. He is not a good actor and the only reason people want them to show up to awards is for ratings and tabloid articles. What a joke! Maybe for once thy are trying not to steal the thunde at award shows. Pitt always gets his btt kissed by the meda…it’s getting ridiculous. P. S Jolie Already finished filming he movie. Y do I know this and u don’t?

They have never made a habit of going to awards when they are not nominated so I am not sure why now it’s a big deal. However, I do agree that Brad is the reason why this movie made the amount of money it made. I saw the movie for Brad and for Brad only. and, please Mr. Friedman have some credibility in a world where real journalism is nonexistent. Brad and Angelina do not have any relationship issues – that’s tabloid garbage and anyone who takes tabloids lies as gospel should have their heads examined! Good day.

Jennifer Aston is going to be there. There is some tension and Angie does not want to bump into her.

thought they were skipping the GGs because of Aniston. last yrs oscars was a joke. these ceremonies should be about the nominees, not this 5 yr soap opera sucking all the air from the room. award show producers think setting up a “show down” will boost viewership (and it probably does) but i think they’re sending a message to stop exploiting them and dissing the nominees. I had hoped they’d go to the CCA and SAGs since Basterds received ensemble noms in both, and the oscars in support of the film (should it receive a nod).
