Mel Gibson opens in “Edge of Darkness” this Friday. It’s his first starring role since “Signs” in 2002. But a lot has changed.
Since then we’ve learned that Gibson is a racist and anti-Semite. He’s also a drunk, a liar and a philanderer. His father is a famous Holocaust denier who has a Web site explaining all his crazy beliefs. He also disavows the Pope and the Roman Catholic Church in favor of his own brand of Catholicism. On a radio show called “The Political Cesspool,” broadcast on Jan. 9, 2010, Hutton Gibson went after the late Pope John Paul II for visiting the Wailing Wall in Jerusalem, for being a Russian or Communist agent and other crazy stuff.
“The whole bunch at the top,” Hutton Gibson says at 14:58 of the interview, of the current Archdiocese, ”if they’re not outright queer, they’re supportive of it. They do nothing about the terrible things that go on among the clergy and the bishops.”
Listen to the interview here. (Thanks to blogger Adam Holland, who found the link.)
All that money that movie fans gave Mel in the past for his movies, including “The Passion of the Christ,” has been used to fuel these ideas. Mel currently has $50 million parked in a not-for-profit foundation called the A. P. Reilly Foundation. The foundation funds his private Holy Family Church in Malibu, California. The church is not recognized by any Archdiocese because the Gibsons have essentially seceded from regular Catholicism.
On his website, Hutton Gibson calls Pope Benedict XVI “Benny the Rat.”
And this is the same Mel Gibson who had seven children with his wife, then left her for a younger woman — with whom he now has an illegitimate child. I’m not sure which Catholic church approves of this.
If you don’t recall, Gibson was pulled over in Malibu on July 28, 2006 for drunk driving. The police officer who pulled him over reported that Gibson said to him, “Fucking Jews… Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world. Are you a Jew?” As it happened, the cop was Jewish. And he wrote down every word.
I don’t always trust the Web site TMZ.com, but this time they really got it right. Here’s the original story and police report.
The fact is, Mel Gibson has never apologized for this incident. He’s never explained it fully, either. And when Diane Sawyer asked him about his father, he refused to distance himself from Hutton Gibson’s views that the Holocaust never happened or criticize him in any way.
If you want to see evidence of Mel Gibson in 2010, check out this interview Gibson did with veteran Los Angeles Hollywood correspondent Sam Rubin.
When Rubin suggests that Gibson may not be wanted back by all of the movie audience, Gibson leans forward, gets aggressive, and asks, “Do you have a dog in this race?” It didn’t occur to Rubin until a few minutes later that Gibson meant because Rubin was Jewish.
Mel Gibson hasn’t changed. Neither has his father. Let’s not reward them.

I feel sorry for aggressive jerks like Gibson. They are so full of distorted emotions, there’s no room left in their brains to think logically.
January 27th, 2010 at 6:14 am
Some would say that it is petty and unforgiving to be still railing on about Mel Gibson’s mistakes and his father’s views. To which I say “and your point is what?” Mel Gibson and his vile father are despotic pieces of ordure (look it up). Thank you Roger for reminding us that we ALL have a dog in this race. I am a proud American – and racist, bigoted scum like Gibson and his hate-spewing father do not belong in our decent America. Tolerance is for those who are tolerant of others. Those who are intolerant do not deserve out grace. Boycott Gibson’s new film. And let Gibson know that he is not welcome in our land. Let him go live in South America where some of his cowardly heroes in the Nazi Party fled…
January 27th, 2010 at 7:10 am
Thank you! I have been a little disturbed by the press over his new movie (which looks terrible, btw). I saw an interview with Gibson recently where he said in a very defensive tone, “I apologized three times already… do I have to apologize again?” YES! Of course! Yes, you keep apologizing and repenting and hope that you will be forgiven. That’s how life works for everyone.
January 27th, 2010 at 7:22 am
People have such short memories these days — good for you, Roger, for reminding us of Mel Gibson’s hateful ways. I’ll never buy another ticket for any project he’s involved with, you can be sure. My only surprise is — why did De Niro get involved with Gibson’s new project in the first place? Gibson’s racism and anti-semitism have been well documented for some time now…
January 27th, 2010 at 8:29 am
I hope that one of the entertainment types that gets to interview Gibson will have the balls to ask him if he agrees with his insane father’s beliefs.
I don’t hold out much hope for that as almost every one of them is an ass kisser!
January 27th, 2010 at 10:24 am
I will not ever ever ever spend another penny on ANYTHING at all that has Mel Gibsons name attached it it, and I had been a fan since The Road Warrier. He makes me sick.
January 27th, 2010 at 11:46 am
Does he pay any taxes on his nonprofit church? Certainly that should be looked into. I guess he has so much money he doesn’t realize that regular people have a choice whether to attend his movies or not. I’m afraid actors and public figures are identified by their private behavior whether is is relevent or not.

Not only will I not ever see another Mel Gibson project whether he is in it or not, I have thrown out the dvds I did have and I too had (past tense) a fan since Road Warrior.
January 27th, 2010 at 1:17 pm
I have a hard time separating people like Mel Gibson and Michael Richards from the hateful words they spoke in unguarded moments. It has definitely tainted my view of them. But Gibson’s father is another issue. We don’t pick our parents, folks. For all we know he could be privately very embarrassed by his father’s statements. Choosing not to lay into him in public is his right.
January 27th, 2010 at 1:36 pm
yeah not a particularly well written article. it either accidentally or intentionally blurs the stories of two different men. and it should explain the dog race comment bettter. are we supposed to assume that a major proportion of hollywood producers are jewish? not sure. are we supposed to think that the pope is more hominid than rodent? not sure.
January 27th, 2010 at 2:02 pm
Every time I look to give Mel Gibson a break, I read/hear things like this.
It’s just a shame. He’s a brilliant filmmaker but in his soul, he’s nothing more than a walking cesspool.

AH wrote: “Reading all these comments makes me wonder what Mr. Gibson or his father have ever done that has physically hurt anyone to engender such vitriol.”
If Mr Gibson or his father ever expressed in words his hatred of you, your family and every one who shares your faith – and made clear his belief that everyone who shares your faith were responsible for all the wars in the world – then I suspect that you would not be quibbling whether you had been hurt physically or some other way by these pieces of slime. What they have done is hurt the very fabric of all that is decent in our country and on our planet. I thought that these Neanderthal-brained creatures had been eliminated after the defeat of Nazism in 1945. They are archaic pariahs. The scum of human existence. Flush them down the toilet and be done with them. End of story
January 27th, 2010 at 3:27 pm
I agree with all with vitriol against Mel Gibson. I will also remind AH that words are very cruel. To espouse those ideas about Catholicism and Jews is hateful, and shouldn’t be admired by anyone. This is not the type of behavior we need to condone nor reward with anything. Including my good hard-working dollars in the form of revenue to Mr. Gibson.

When someone as famous as Mel Gibson has a father who takes public stands that insult Catholics and Jews, he has an obligation to disassociate himself from those views. He may love his father and be disgusted by his views but he ought to tell us. Otherwise, we have every right to believe he shares those views. Silence is assent.
The fact is that comments like “Do you have a dog in this race?” show Gibson to be an unrepentant bully who feels his beaten his detractors by just being there hawking a movie made with other accepted actors.
In an interview, Gibson has also said the following:
“What scandal?” he says. “That’s mostly newspaper hype, OK?! I can get in with the studio, work with them, or work independently as I wish. And I’ll go on as I always have.”
In the interview with Rubin, he also said the following:
Rubin: “Some people will welcome you back, some people will say you should never come back.”
Gibson: “Why?”
Rubin replied: “Because of what happened before.”
Gibson: “What happened before?”
Rubin: “The remarks that were attributed to you.”
Gibson: “The remarks that were attributed to me that I didn’t necessarily make.”
This guy is a loser and the actors and directors who are making films with him are sacrificing their own box office and reputations. Jodie Foster and Leonardo DiCaprio – that means you.
I will never pay another dollar for anything associated with him or them and I will encourage others to do the same. I urge people to start their own social networking efforts to get the word out. We should all stand together against this type of person. He’s just a jerk actor after all. Just because he’s famous, he is not absolved from being a good person.
January 27th, 2010 at 3:57 pm
This is sad, indeed. However, instead of trashing Mel and his father, I would encourage prayers for them. They need them, as do we all.
January 27th, 2010 at 4:12 pm
yeah. but he makes a good movie.
January 27th, 2010 at 4:12 pm
P in A, I think you make a valid point to begin with, but when you drag Jodie Foster and Leonardo DiCaprio into this mess I think you’re going a bit too far.
January 27th, 2010 at 4:14 pm
“jerks”, “pieces of ordure”, “scum”, ”
makes me sick”, “a walking cesspool”, “these pieces of slime”, “these Neanderthal-brained creatures”, “pariahs”, “the scum of human existence”, “Flush them down the toilet”, “Tolerance is for those who are tolerant of others.”
there’s so much to say about this sort of discussion, especially among jews.
but instead let’s ask this question: does he have an public obligation to explain his position on anything a family member goes public on? OR does he have the right to remain silent? silence isn’t always assent. if he’s genetically only half as wacky as his alleged father, his silence could be aspberger’s spectrum. there’s so many possibilities. i suspect that an explanation of his views would be more upsetting to people than his silence. especially if the explanation couldn’t be logically refuted.
it all sounds like one of those stories where (as with the president of iran) we’re gonna find out in so many years that his dad’s family were actually jewish and they’re all sorta messed up.
January 27th, 2010 at 4:55 pm
While I absolutely do not agree with Mel Gibson’s anti-semitic comments and I would agree that he has not sufficiently apologized, I do think that he is really getting beat on for this. For example, Woody Allen takes naked pictures of and has sex with his step-daughter (yeah I know he wasn’t legally married to Mia Farrow but c’mon–close enough–he and Mia fathered a child together) and eventually marries Soon Yi. Woody Allen can still make movies and actors are still dying to work with him. Woody hasn’t apologized nor has that ungrateful urchin of a daughter. I don’t see many people distancing themselves from his treacherous behavior. Can we separate the artist from the private person? Sometimes their behavior is just so terrible you can’t. People will vote with their wallet and their feet and Gibson may or may not feel it financially. But I think there are other celebrities who do not get as rough a treatment as Gibson so there is a double standard. OJ Simpson could always find a golfing buddy and Tiger Woods will have no trouble getting back on his feet (what a rat bastard). Life isn’t fair.
January 27th, 2010 at 5:07 pm
Woody Allen’s behavior – if it was objectionable (and there is a case to be made that it was foolish and insensitive to his partner) – hurt his ex-girlfriend. He wasn’t advocating his personal choices be copied by others. And he didn’t condemn people of different faiths and religions. Worst case scenario he made poor judgements in his personal life. (Who hasn’t?) People still work with him because they figure that his personal life is his business. Gibson is rightly hated because of his foul views about other people, other faiths. Views that 70 years ago led directly to the holocaust. Gibson is scum not because of his personal life. But because his views on Jews are in fairly close sync with Adolf Hitler…
January 27th, 2010 at 5:12 pm
Never going to see a movie by Mel Gibson, Woody Allen or your favorite Roger, Roman Polanski or any of their supporters. They can all crawl back under those rocks they came from.
January 27th, 2010 at 6:06 pm
I was going to pass on the film anyway because it looks uninteresting, formulaic, and Gibson as an actor is a hack. Gibson’s “art” as an actor was his charm, humor, beauty and being a hero in the flesh – our image of what a hero should be. Well, we all know now that image was meticulously crafted. What lies beneath the surface bursting to get out is an angry, aging, racist, hypocritical, zealot. He worships in the church of Mel, where his parishoners are hand selected. Arrogant. Not exactly a box-office draw. Mel Gibson charmed his way to success, and he was once entertaining. We’ll love who he was, and reject him for what he has become. Thanks for tee’ing him up proper.
January 27th, 2010 at 7:24 pm
Yeah, and I’m sure that Mel is going to lose a lot of sleep over some internet blogging nobody named Roger… I don’t even know your last name so why would Mel or anyone else.
January 27th, 2010 at 8:37 pm
Roger please stop railing against Mel and others. I understand your Jewish but should you as a journalist really harp on those you hate so openly? Every race, color, nationality, or gender hates somebody I don’t care how much they swear they do not, but as a major player you need to get over it Roger! I follow what you write regularly and this stuff is getting old. You soar when you write about music and I consider you the sage on R & B. Just give us the insiders view and let us try to experience for a bit what you receive everyday as a gift! Thanks for the good times!

January 27th, 2010 at 9:10 pm
I like Mel Gibson. He is a brilliant artist and an emotionally twisted and flawed man. I look forward to the day when I can learn to control my own life, thoughts, and passions so that I may righteously judge him for his literal and imaginary transgressions. Do not mistake my compassion as an excuse for condoning any thought, word, or action of hate against another human being; we all need to be accountable for each of our untamed prejudices that in any way can snuff out the fragile soul of another. On the same hope for equality, I wish that the same scale that Mr. Gibson’s drunken remarks have been weighed, could be applied to the malicious and unseemly remarks that have been leveled by the Hollywood left against the deity of Jesus, because we know that they haven’t.
And that is the point, we all need to change and put others before our own gods, then we will have one awesome loving world to live in.
January 27th, 2010 at 9:18 pm
Audiences do move on, but what strikes me about this film is that it is another fetishization of violence. Mel Gibson is mad, then he hits someone, then he breaks a window, and he walks mad some more, and then he says something through his teeth, then he looks mad, and there’s more violence.
Okay, but how is that entertaining?
January 27th, 2010 at 9:32 pm
Hahaha! Roger, you are a bigot. You hate Scientologists and you hate Catholics. You only like your own kind. I don’t care about What Gibson does with his life. He can screw it. I’m just here to enjoy movies, man.
January 27th, 2010 at 9:36 pm
If his film is good, people will see it. He got busted expressing racists comments while being drunk, I’m sure there’s plenty other film makers who possibly would have done the same in that situation. Let’s be real, there’s tons of racists filmmakers in this biz, just many of them
never got pinned.
January 27th, 2010 at 10:25 pm
well i can see you don’t let all comments come through Roger….why is that??? is it because you are biased?
January 27th, 2010 at 10:29 pm
Last year the National Enquirer ran a short piece about the neo-Nazi that murdered the Holocaust Museum guard. It said he’d recently attended some sort of Aryan Nation-type conference and Hutton Gibson was one of the speakers. Unfortunately the “mainstream media” never picked this up. Having read several interviews Mel’s given to plug his movie I’ve gotten the impression that journalists are intimidated by him. Other than Sam Rubin no one’s had the guts to bring up the 2006 incident. And no one’s challenged his current “Catholic when I want to be” life style (I just love that Mel brought his mistress to the movie premiere, as he’s still legally married!) Thank you Roger for telling it like it is!
January 27th, 2010 at 11:33 pm
Greg – I suspect that Roger is too busy covering the industry to spend time deleting posts he doesn’t like – but if he is biased I would imagine it would be a bias against ignorant fascist-minded defenders of racist, bigoted pond scum and redneck lard-asses with all the mental acuity of the average 3-year-old cucumber. Does that help?
January 27th, 2010 at 11:39 pm
Just for the record – he said “dog in this fight” not “dog in this race” both Roger Friedman and Pail in A. misquoted him.
“Do you have a dog in this fight?” is not aggressive.
It was a legitimate question.
Don’t exacerbate the fact that he is an unforgivable jerk by misunderstanding the quote and/or the context.
Journalism is supposed to be unbiased and Sam Rubin was not unbiased and Gibson was calling him out for it.
Sam Rubin needs to be a little more level about his job – and a little more unbiased – even if he is giving screen time to a nutjob like Gibson.
Having said that I’ll go see the movie. I don’t care how crazy he is – I like his movies…

Really Roger this is the people you put up? “ignorant fascist-minded defenders of racist, bigoted pond scum and redneck lard-asses with all the mental acuity of the average 3-year-old cucumber.” I am mistaken that you are a fair minded person. I am sorry if my opinions hurt you but it was only trying to look out for you. I love your writings and look forward to lots more but I guess Im too radical for you. I promise to never write to you again!

Caught Maniacal Mel on Leno the other night. Tried to blame his seething anger problem on his latest attempt to quit smoking. Watching and listening to him, it’s clear Gibson is having some sort of mental meltdown and is doing his best to fight it instead of dealing with it…
January 28th, 2010 at 2:11 am
Seeing Gibson’s interview with Rubin confirms to me that he’s still anti-semitic. after 3 years of AA rehab and he still wants to deny that the anti-semitic incident with the cop ever took place,
Like Rubin,I have never heard the phrase” do you have a dog in this race?” so at first it seems difficult to understand what Gibson means, but thinking it through, it becomes obvious- “Rubin, you’re a Jew so naturally you’re going to be hostile to me”.
It reminds me of the Oscar ceremony around 15-20 yrs ago when a German fimmaker was awarded the Oscar for Best Foreign Film. Clutching the statue, he said “This is the first Oscar awarded to a German since the war.. and we know why that is”. Immediately there was a loud groan from the audience. What did he mean? You Jewish Hollywood are so anti -German that until now you prevented a German from winning an Oscar.
January 28th, 2010 at 2:12 am
What happened to separating the artist from their politics? It happens with other artists, but not this actor. I’m sure there are closeted homophobes in Hollywood; and there are certainly closeted anti-semites in Hollywood. A lot of black actors and singers feel that Hollywood is owned by Jews….and so on and so forth. So if you call out Mel, call out the others too.
January 28th, 2010 at 2:30 am
just noticed that the title of this article has been changed, probably by one roger friedman. this supports my sense that this article was always inadequate. a google news search still shows the original title “mel gibson’s father goes after the pope and catholic church”. turns out to be an article about jewish concerns and not many catholics are upset. i’ll guess this is because being “jewish” doesn’t assume any religiosity, where as people that want to consider themselves catholic have a different sort of grounding.
so now i’m looking around for where mad mel says why he isn’t “ready to forgive and forget.” no can find. so an irrelevant title has been replaced with a misleading one.
i now have a conspiracy theory that mel and roger both benifit from articles like this. and from the “lard-ass”-quality of comments that follow, to which i contribute as worshipper at temple hollywood.
January 28th, 2010 at 4:30 am
I don’t really care what actors think or do off the screen. I pay to be entertained. If I never watched movies that have actors who have differing opinions than mine then I’d probably never see another movie. It’s the same reason I don’t listen when actors give their political views, what do I care what they think?
January 28th, 2010 at 5:22 am
He should be ashamed of himself. How arrogent of him to assume that the general public is going to forgive and forget what he said and his overall behavior within the last few years. He seems to just make up the rules as he goes along. I for one will NOT be going to see his new movie. Once was a fan, but not any longer.
January 28th, 2010 at 5:29 am
Really looking forward to Edge of Darkness. Will probably knock Avatar from the top spot. Mel’s always great in everything he does. You go, Mel!
January 28th, 2010 at 10:12 am
Woody Allen did not only exploit Sun Yi when she was very young, he also molested his other children to the point where one of them wanted a restraining order against him. The other one – who used to hide when he came to visit – was considered to have been molested, but a judge deemed she would he harmed by a trial. No one distanced themselves from him, his penis was not photographed by police enforcement like Michael Jackson’s, and he is still working. Polanski did rape a thirteen year old girl.
Of those three, the one who was acquitted in court, the one who never ever was accused of violence and whose “victims” never wanted to leave his side, was the one to be completely crucified and who finally died from the experience – Jackson.
January 28th, 2010 at 12:35 pm
I don’t understand why Sam Rubin was so vague in his questions. Why didn’t he just come out and say:
——————————————
Rubin: “Some people will welcome you back, some people will say you should never come back.”
Gibson: “Why?”
Rubin replied: “Because you said fucking Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world.”
Then Gibson would have to respond to that specific sentence.
—————————
Gibson was asking for specifics, but Rubin wouldn’t give them. Why not? Was Rubin afraid to get specific?
January 28th, 2010 at 7:32 pm
I have not cared for Mel Gibson ever since he literally pushed a gay man out of a high story window in “Braveheart” many years ago.
It is there in the film you can not miss it. His tolerance and humanity is low indeed and the weariness shows heavily in his face.
January 28th, 2010 at 8:51 pm
We are All going to see Mel’s movie. I thought they said that he
would never work in Hollywood again? Sounds, very strange for
people to come out like that. Don’t they know how a WESTERN
DEMOCRACY WORKS? Could it be that the Hollywood Mafia, is becoming
too big for their boots. The last time I looked America, has a
Constitution, and we are allowed to have “Free Speech”, that is
what our Founding Fathers wanted. The Hollywood Mafia, don’t like
the fact that Mel has his own money and can make movies without
their finances. The Hollywood Mafia have had their day and everyone
knows that. Some fabulous movies are now coming out in different
western countries, without the Hollywood finances! It is always
about Money, Power and and a deviant brain!

Jodi Foster has guts. I was watching Opra and Denise Richards was talking about Charlie Sheen. From all accounts he is a very unpleasant man. BUT he’s inside Hollywood, no matter what he does. I was put off by Opra coyly giving a “Hi, Charlie” shoutout to him when Richards commented on his awful behavior. And that’s how it is. Look at Polanski. He’s inside. How come Gibson isn’t? I’m surprised his views put anyone in that town to shame. Jodi Foster I know doesn’t abide any of his views. But she was there for a friend. Like I say – guts.

This country loves to bring peole down while i love my country let’s not forget we gave indian’s blanket’s with small pox we gave 400 black men VD and then tracked them for 20 years to see how it effected them we { this country} refused to allow a boat full of Jewish people fleeing Gemany to dock in NY in the SOUTH for many year’s sign’s read NO DOG’S NO NIGGER’S AND NO JEWS the list could go on and on so while we want to throw Mel to the Wolves this country praised artist who were once Drug dealer’s who ruined there own communties then once they make money the world is okay with it so many more examples. Like Mike said if you wanna make the world a better place take a look in the mirror and make that change. Never mind Mel what are we doing besides putting down a man who really don’t need our money and besides expressing his view’s like the man said I may not agree with what you say but i will die in defense of you saying it
February 6th, 2010 at 1:45 am
Mel doesn’t offend me. But I can see why he bothers a lot of people. A lot of older celebrities start to reveal their less than appealing side. I could list a number of them. Rock Hudson, Micheal Jackson, Naomi Cambell, Tom Cruise, Winona Rider and the list goes on. I do think a bigoted, devout Catholic, rough edged guy like Mel has reached a point in his career where the vast majority of the Hollywood establishment is definitely antagonistic towards him.
But I think Hollywood should be careful about how they treat him. Conservatives have successfully painted Hollywood as non-mainstream and even un-American. How many Hollywood actors do we really hate because of substance abuse, marital infidelity or obnoxious drunken comments? Most fans of Mel want to see more of his stuff because it is different and because usually when people screw up, you give them a second chance. And usually the people who stand behind you the first time are the ones that get really angry the second time it happens.
When we compare Roman Polanski to Mel Gibson, I think we can see how standards change to fit the circumstance. Creative people tend to self-indulgent and have self-control issues. Hollywood is probably one of the most tolerant places on his Earth so I think if Mel Gibson is really as bad as some of the Hollywood media believe. You will not need to hang him. i admire mel gibson and his dad. i think the interviewer did have “a dog in the fight” and that was a brilliant point that mel gibson made. i think the interviewer engaged in ambush journalism and he literally made me sick. i was excited to go see mel gibson’s new movie “edge of darkness” and welcome him back 100%! he’s one of the few actors whose movies i follow, because his faith in Jesus Christ is reflected in his work and i am always inspired. if any of you knew anything about vactican II or the catholic church you would respect hutton gibson a great deal, he is very intelligent and knows what he is talking about.

I think its hypocrite that most people want to judge someone based on his beliefs, i don’t see jews treating arabs any better in Jerusalem, mas murder isn’t fine by anyone’s books as far as i remember yet we choose to have a selective memory we want to remember what nazis did the jews and empower them to do worse in this very time by being sympathetic was the Holocaust. i bet someone will come and say i am very ignorant, that will only reflect on him because i speak of things i’ve seen while he speaks of things he’ll heard on tv.
I have no doubt in my mind that americans are freedom lovers but with enough freedom educate yourselves on what to hate and what the media makes you hate, u’ve come to be so reliant on such articles that you wouldn’t hesitate to express your hate in an instant rather then spend a bit more time researching or trying to understand reasons behind what people say or do.
while Gibson may have offended people with words, ignorance causes children their lives…
Pick your battles wisely

You guys make me laugh. There are sooo many other people whom I am sure most of you think are true and good that deserve your hate besides Mel Gibson. Who cares?? He makes great movies, minus a few. So he hates Jews, and the Pope. Whoopie!! I think the Pope is one of the most sinister people on this planet along with all his little “holy” cronies. Holy my foot. You guys are laughable. The Catholic church is responsible for the deaths of so many people over the ages to the point that they are uncountable. Yet none of you peons seem to care about that huh??
February 18th, 2010 at 10:42 am
This is total bullshit. Mel Gibson is the greatest actor/director of his time. He doesn’t have to answer for anyone but himself. He was savaged by Hollywood when trying to make and promote The Passion. He risked his own personal fortune and it payed off for him. If you don’t believe that Jews run Hollywood (which they’ve earned themselves so I’m not knocking them), your kidding yourself. I don’t know what’s in the man’s heart and neither do you. By the way, many others have parted ways with the Roman Catholic Church. Big deal.

May I remind everyone that this guy is an entertainment reporter? The crime Mel Gibson committed was driving while intoxicated, not beig an an ant-semite. Why is it that people were more outraged by the comments that we were told he made rather than the fact he could have killed other while driving? Is is more horrific that he may have slandered a group of people than almost killing anyone? (Jew, gentile, catholic (fill in the groups). Have we become such a touchy society that offending someone is more a an offence than almost killing them!
The phrases he is said to have uttered are dumb and simple minded but, we as a society need to get our priorities straight. Actions are far louder and more damaging than words.
You want to punish Mel Gibson, don’t see his movies!
I’ve heard people in Hollywood utter some pretty dumb sentences that I have been offended by, I just choose not to support there products.

Another pundit with a journalist hat on pretending to be objective. Sam Rubin’s passive aggressive tactics are not fooling as many viewers as he thinks. Not for nothing, but Israel (usually associated with Jewish peoples for one reason or another) is not exactly a beacon of peace in the world today. In fact, it has proven to be the opposite.
February 19th, 2010 at 5:25 am
It’s to bad you weren’t this concerned about our current president, where he was attending church, and what racist, biggotted crap he wss listening to week after week. Gibsons a movie star, don’t like him, don’t see his movies. “Take the log out of your own eye before you worry about the speck in your brother’s” Sound familiar?
February 22nd, 2010 at 9:42 am
[...] is embroiled in scandal. Polanski, actually, has had a cloud over him for 30 years. Gibson’s been in hot water for four or five [...]
February 23rd, 2010 at 11:22 am
Mel Gibson is by far my favorite actor. If he was a Jewish or black liberal he’d be allowed to be racist. Since when does some Hollywood pencil pusher care about what brand of catholic someone is? As for the holocaust who knows how much is truth or non truth. I don’t trust hollywood or the government whether they are jewish or not.
Long live free thinkers like Mel Gibson!!!
February 23rd, 2010 at 11:27 am
You Mel Gibson bashers are the same racists that LOVE Sharpton, Jackson, Wright, Farrakhan and other liberal racists!!!
Affirmative action=Liberal sanctioned racism!
We have a black prez and a black leader of the GOP so it’s time to scrap the REAL racism known as affirmative action!
February 23rd, 2010 at 11:33 am
Disagreeing with a Jew=Anti-Semite?!?
The Jews started with Gibson when he tried to release Passion of the Christ.
Their excuse was that it would create anti Jew sentiment but they have no problem making Nazi movies while not worrying about anti-German sentiment.
February 23rd, 2010 at 11:37 am
I don’t trust our Liberal Jewish media or Liberal Jewish Hollywood. If you do that’s your problem.
The REAL holocaust is all the American babies liberals are aborting every year. No big deal because they aren’t Jewish babies right???
February 23rd, 2010 at 11:47 am
Why do we give billions every year to Israel while America is in a deficit??
WHY???
February 23rd, 2010 at 11:52 am
I have liked some Mel movies and disliked others. So I am a lukewarm Gibson fan. And while I don’t like anyone in Hollywood pushing their beliefs on me, if I boycotted every movie that stared/was produced by/was directed by/etc someone I disagree with, I wouldn’t ever see any movie.
You have every right to boycott Mel because of his beliefs, or his father’s. But don’t expect the rest of us to feel like we need to do the same.
February 23rd, 2010 at 12:51 pm
We routinely accept the racism of rappers that cross over into acting. We accept the criminality of people like Polanski, even if they’re fugitives. We accept the drug use of actors, so long as they can make a good pirate movie. And it’s okay to wander your house naked with the shades open, so long as you have an Oscar on your mantle. So what exactly is taboo in Hollywood? Making Jesus movies, that’s what. Maybe Mel should have had his life a little more together. Maybe his beliefs are a little out there. Even so there is little doubt that there is a heavy dose of payback at work here.
February 23rd, 2010 at 9:13 pm
I like the idea of visiting the sins of the father on the son. That’s fresh. Mel Gibson is not a “drunk,” He’s an alcoholic. I wish I had a dime for all of the hateful statements, screw-ups, cheating, out-of-wedlock hanky panky that goes on in Hollywood and is, quite frankly accepted, unless you are Mel Gibson. I get it that you hate him. I don’t. I couldn’t care less what his dad believes, just like I have no control over what my own father says or does. I just hope you are measured by the same rod you are measuring Mel, you certainly aren’t judging the rest of the Hollywood cesspool by it. I hope he stays in recovery and gets his act together.

RE: the “dog in this fight” comment. He is not making reference AT ALL to Rubin being Jewish, he is responding to his edgy tone. I think Mell handled it badly but it is untrue that he got “agressive”. The most you could say is that he went on the offensive. I agree Mel blew this interview because he took the snarky bait. I happen to not find anything redeeming about Sam Rubin, however. But Mel should have been better prepared for this.
February 23rd, 2010 at 10:55 pm
At the end of that same interview you posted, Mel actually called Sam Rubin an “a**hole”, but of course they didn’t broadcast that part. You used to be able to see the full version on youtube (the link is here: http://digg.com/celebrity/Mel_Gibson_Calls_Reporter_an_A_hole_on_Live_TV), but the video was deleted for copyright reasons.

Big deal, this could have been a story about anyone in hollywood. you choose to go after mel gibson for his drunken tirade, but give child rapist roman polanski a pass and nod of support.
you have freedom of speech in this country, but you better not say it.
i cant stand anyone in hollywood or their views and values.
February 24th, 2010 at 11:49 am
Great post. Thank you for putting my feelings about Gibson into words.
I understand the saying “everybody deserves a second chance”… But there are so many people who could fill his shoes without the drunk/cult/adultery/anti-semitism baggage.
Can’t we collectively give someone else a chance to be famous, and just let Gibson go away?
February 25th, 2010 at 12:25 pm
I can’t stand to look at Mel Gibson anymore. When I look at his movies I see him, in all of them, from Braveheart to the Passion of the Christ, reenacting the death of Jesus. I watched The Patriot on Cable last week because I wanted to see Heath Ledger on screen again and was appalled at the violence Mel showed in front of us and his screen children. He should go to rehab for a year, abstain from making these awful movies and stop giving angry interviews. His face is marked with anger and evil now and he needs redemption. His career with my set…the boomers…is over. Now that I know his feelings, and his father’s feelings about the one of the worse human tragedies in our history– it never happened–I will never see any of his movies ever again.

Bonnie Herman says:
“They are archaic pariahs. The scum of human existence. Flush them down the toilet and be done with them. End of story”
Bonnie Herman goes on to say:
“…his views on Jews are in fairly close sync with Adolf Hitler…”
Hmm, Bonnie, it may be that YOU have views that are in fairly close sync with Adolf Hitler as well.
Bonnie there is no excuse for Gibson’s words OR your words, hopefully you’re smart enough to see that.

Whatever happened to a free country? Good or bad, people have a right to their opinions. That right is bigger than what their opinion consists of. Mel gave his. You are all giving yours. This is freedom at work. Embrace it. But please don’t ever think Mel shouldn’t have the right to express his freely.

Don't forget that Gibson is virulently anti-gay.

paris hilton is nothing but a little skankola, party girl with too much money and time to do nothing. that is why she is always in trouble! her friend kim kardashian did the right thing by dropping her and for the record has one of the best sex tapes of all the celebrities.
